The '45
Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Untold Story of the Jacobite Rising
by Christopher Duffy
The '45 provides evidence of a much wider plot against the Hannoverians,
of Jacobiote sympathies within the British Armies and conspiracies
across England and Wales to support the risings in Scotland.
Professor Christopher Duffy has researched archives from Sweden,
France and Germany as well as UK sources to write this 639 page
book. It is well illustrated with copious maps and photographs.
The book is published by Cassell with a very reasonable cover price
of £20.00.

Campaign 113- Osprey Publishing
Rossbach & Leuthen 1757
by Simon Millar
Illustrated by Adam Hook
This is Simon Millar's second Campaign publication for Osprey;
the first being Kolin 1757, published in 2001.
Rossbach and Leuthen has numerous maps, illustrations and contemporary
prints to support the detailed text and orders of battle. There
seems to be little new information but it is an invaluable and time
saving source of inspiration for wargamer and historian alike.A
must for all SYW enthusiasts.

SYWA Demonstration/Participation Game using 25/28mm figures |

15-16 November |
Let the organisers know if you wish to play. There was a real problem
in 2002 in that only 4 people expressed an interest in playing and
only 3 turned up. OK I know they did not promote SYW in the initial
ads and did not chase people up as Ihad just moved house...but let's
not see the SYW die as a competition period. |

King of the Battlefield by Ian Godwin
These 18th century wargame rules are designed to give you a fast
simple game that can be played in an evening.
King of the Battlefield uses an alternate move sequence with a
ground scale of 1" = 75yards. Any scale of figures can be used
but the author uses 15mm so that is what the rules assume you will
be doing too. Units of 3 stands are nominally designated as representing
an infantry regiment of two battalions with their battalion gun,
one battalion of light infantry or 4 - 5 squadrons of cavalry or
2 - 3 squadrons of skirmishing cavalry.
Now the especially good bit: it does not matter how many
figures you have to a base - so if you normally play with another
set of rules it does not matter so long as you have two armies using
that same basing system.
The 'guts' of the rules are found on just two pages but there are
a number of optional rules, army list suggestions, a points system
plus explanatory diagrams.
I have not had a chance of playing these rules yet but I am looking
forward to giving them a go. |
