The Worthing and Bognor Regis wargames groups put on a re-fight of the Battle of Pinkie, using the DBR rules from Wargames Research Group. This batle was actually fought on 10 September 1547 between the Scots underthe Earl of Huntly and the English under the Protector Somerset. The Scots crossed the Esk and attacked the English lines. They were initially successful but were fired upon by English warships in the bay and thrown into confusion by a charge of cavalry. In the end they fled from the field with heavy losses and Somerst went on to occupy Edinburgh.

The re-fight went much the same way as the actual battle. The picture below shows one of the three scratch-built model ships made by Bob O'Brien for the game.

The nice thing about the SDMS weekends is that you get the chance to just turn up with an army and play a game. The next one is in November 1999. To find out more about the club contact Bill Thurlow
